ROMNEY, W.Va., Dec. 10, 2011 — Fifteen-year-old Adam Stinespring apparently felt he had something left in the tank after running the Jingle Run 5K in Fort Ashby early Saturday morning.
So he and his family decided to jump in the Dancer Dash half-mile run. Staged a little closer to home and at the front of the newly established Hampshire County Christmas parade, Stinespring led a small but dedicated field along the parade route — much to the delight of spectators waiting for the parade — to the finish line in 2 minutes, 59.4 seconds.
Daniel Barbe, 9, of Springfield, was a distance second in 4:07.4, but might have been a bit faster if not for carrying a plush version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Angela Barbe, 43, beat out young MacKenzie Spradlin, 9, of Mount Savage, Md., for the women’s title. Barbe clocked a 4:40.5 to Spradlin’s 4:44.6. Of course, Barbe was weighed down by a hefty, snow-white Teddy Bear she carried each of the 2,640 feet.
