ROMNEY, W.Va. — The second annual Turkey Trot 2-mile run/walk is back for fitness enthusiasts in Hampshire County and the surrounding areas.

One of Hampshire County’s newest holiday traditions is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 22, in Romney. The out-and-back course will take place on Foxes Hollow Road a few miles west of town center. Click here for a link to Google Maps. This year, a 10K (6.2-mile) option is being added to the mix – for the same low price!

The Potomac Highlands Distance Club is again hosting the event. The club is a registered nonprofit organization under the umbrella of the Road Runners Club of America and is the only RRCA club active in the Eastern Panhandle.

The 2-mile run/walk begins promptly at 9 a.m. Race-day registration begins at 8 a.m.

Entry for this low-key event is only $5 per participant with a cap of $20 per family or only $3 for each runner or walker who brings two cans of non-perishable food items. Those items will be donated to a Hampshire County food pantry.

Last year, participants from five states — ranging in age from 11 to “60 plus” —  completed the distance. Eric Etka, 39, of Richmond, Va., led everyone to the finish line with a time of 11 minutes and 34.9 seconds. Hannah Lipps, 11, of Romney, was the first female finisher (14:06.5). Can these course records be broken in 2012?
