KEYSER, W.Va. — How has your summer training been going? You get the chance to find out on Saturday, Sept. 28 when you enter the inaugural Apple Stomp 5K run/walk. The event utilizes the same double out-and-back course as the Keyser Kiwanis Independence race used — so nearly three months later, you’ll be able to compare one effort to the other and gauge your progress.

The course is as flat as a road race can be. The total course elevation change throughout the 3.1-mile event is a mere 94 feet, a total ascent of about half that, or roughly 49 feet. Apple_Stomp_elevation_profile

5K runners and walkers will start at the corner of Carskadon Lane and New Creek Drive/Harley O. Staggers Drive and head north on Water Street to the corner of First Street. Participants then turn around, cross what was the start line — which doubles as the 1-mile point (and finish line for the 1-mile walkers). 5K participants continue south on Harley O. Staggers Drive for approximately 1.05 miles before again turning around. The start line triples as the 5K finish line.

Proceeds will go towards the goal of Burlington United Methodist Family Services Inc. officials’ effort to replace the existing school.
