The Outdoor Education Center of FLOC

The Outdoor Education Center of For Love of Children, located in Harpers Ferry, WV facilitates healthy character development for youth and adults through adventure challenges, environmental education, and sustainability practices in a powerful outdoor classroom where experiential learning inspires individual potential and leads participants toward discovering connections between the natural world and their communities.

The organization has given many children the opportunity for hands on learning through a variety of activities, including an after school program for youth in the county. The after school program, Leaders in Action, has been operating for 5 years at local middle schools and has been steadily growing throughout it’s tenure. Jefferson County Parks and Recreation

jcpr logoNestled in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Commission (JCPRC) is a government agency with a mission of providing safe public parks and year round recreational activities for the citizens in the Jefferson County community. The JCPRC was established in 1970 by the Jefferson County Commission.  It is made up of an eleven member volunteer board that meets once a month at the Jefferson County Community Center, located at Sam Michael’s Park.  The board members are appointed by the Jefferson County Commission for two and three-year terms and then may be re-appointed after their term has expired.  The JCPRC hired a full-time director in 1994 to run the Parks & Recreation Department and has since steadily grown to include five full-time staff members, two part-time staff members, eight seasonal maintenance staff and numerous other program staff.

The JCPRC is responsible for operating a variety of parks and facilities within Jefferson County that include picnic pavilions, walking trails, playgrounds, athletic fields, a dog park, and the Jefferson County Community Center.  Currently, the JCPRC owns or maintains ten parks that encompass over 300 acres of park land.

In addition to providing parks and recreational space, the JCPRC is dedicated to providing quality programs for the residents of Jefferson County, as well as for those in the surrounding tri-state area.    The JCPRC offers a wide variety of recreational programs, special events and activities throughout the year to include gymnastics, dance, karate, swimming, fitness, preschool, and arts & crafts.  In addition, we offer many seasonal programs and events that include summer play camps, sports camps, nature and science camps, holiday events; such as Lunch with Santa, Halloween Happening, Easter Egg Hunt, Youth Fishing Derby and others.  For more information on our parks or programs, visit our website at www.jcprc.org.
