MORGANTOWN, W.Va., March 16, 2013 — By the midway point of the third annual MountainEAR 5K run/walk on Saturday in Morgantown, only one thing was clear: the lead pack was five members strong, and the race was far from over.
Over the final 1.55 miles, though, 15-year-old Seth Edwards made the most of his effort to pull away and win in 16 minutes and 55.1 seconds. Edwards, of Morgantown, held off runner-up and fellow 15-year-old Alexander Miner by 7.4 seconds for the win. The first six runners all crossed the finish line before the clock struck 17:23.
Alyssa Anderson, 23, didn’t have it any easier in the women’s field. Anderson, of Morgantown, won in 21:31. Jordan Walker, 29, of Morgantown, placed second in 21:57.4.
