2 more free trips into the depths of Green Ridge State Forest
Next training run is Sunday, Sept. 22 - scroll down for details
FLINTSTONE, Md., July 2, 2013 — As the heat and humidity oppresses runners around the Mid-Atlantic this month and next, Fire on the Mountain 50K race director Kevin Spradlin can’t help but look towards the not-too-distant future. On Oct. 27, the date set for the 4th annual Fire on the Mountain 50K and 2-person relay (fueled by Sheetz), cooler weather will undoubtedly prevail in Green Ridge State Forest.

PHDC members Staci Calder (front) and Bob Hamilton (white shirt) travel with Robert Hardt along the first section of the course during a training run in 2012.
In that fashion, the Potomac Highlands Distance Club has finalized the training schedule for the 2013 event. Be sure to read the rules and regulations for these self-supported, no-cost training runs. This year, there are seven planned training runs - so c’mon out and hit the trails!
What: Training schedule for this year’s 50K and 2-person relay
When: See schedule (below) for dates and meet-up times
Where: See schedule for date-specific routes
What else: All training runs are self-supported. Bring and carry what you need. Carry in, carry out. Leave no trash on the trails or in the woods, please. Aside from these dates, other days (such as weekdays) also are possible if sufficient interest is shown. As in 2012, RSVP by Facebook or email - [email protected] - is encouraged. If no one RSVPs, the RD might not show up. Other than 1, there is no minimum requirement for this schedule to go on as planned. It is optional for runners to go further than each day’s planned route, but please be flexible in transportation arrangements on site. It’s worked pretty well in past years.

Let’s use they first date, July 28, to demonstrate how this will work. About two weeks before each training run, the meet-up time and location, as well as planned distance for the day, will be finalized and will be posted on this page. Each week, the meet-up location will be provided as well as a link to a Google map (just plug in your starting address for convenience). I’ve marked the calendar and hope to make most of these runs. Sundays are tough long runs days but I’ll try my best to join in the fun!

I will not make this, however if anyone is interested in trail runs in and around Strasburg/Ft Valley, VA. Let me know. I do my long runs on Saturday mornings
