MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Feb. 9, 2013 — Through the first week of February, registrations for the annual MountainEAR 5K run/walk in Morgantown have far outpaced the 2012 process. The MountainEAR 5K run and 1-mile kids run/walk is a benefit for the WVU Student Academy of Audiology.
More than 70 people have registered for this year’s event as of Friday. This time last year, only 15 people had registered. A total of 219 people crossed the finish line near the amphitheater at Hazel Ruby-McQuain Memorial Park.
The 5K race is scheduled for a precise 11 a.m. start time. The kids’ 1-mile fun run/walk will begin at approximately 11:45, and an expansive awards ceremony for the 5K will follow.
The race committee, comprised of students from the WVU SAA, has designated Friday, March 15 from 6 - 8 p.m. as a packet pick-up and registration night. Along with hearing screenings, packet pick-up will take place on the third floor of Allen Hall on the Evansdale campus.
The event, which returned in 2012 to Morgantown after a brief hiatus, is making improvements for the 2013 race. The event is now an official Potomac Highlands Distance Club race. In addition, the race committee opted to offer participants the option of buying moisture-wicking tech shirts, available in men’s and women’s sizes, instead of plain cotton t-shirts. Plus the race committee has promised to have more post-race food and drink available, thanks in large part to sponsorship support.
