New timing crew spits out accurate, timely results - for less
* Rates among best in region
* Not just results: Race reports, videos and more
MOUNT SAVAGE, July 31, 2011 -- There's a new timer in town.
Worst case scenario is that, as race director, you'll get accurate and timely results for a lower price than you're paying right now.
And that's just for starters.
Working under PhD Media Group and the Mountain Maryland Marathon Club, veteran race director and timer Kevin Spradlin is working to fill the gaps where ever possible in the tri-state area of Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
"There seems to be a lack of available, affordable timers for many running events in the area," Spradlin said of cross country, road and trail footraces. "This leaves race directors at a loss to explain why timely results are not available the same day as the event - and it makes it harder for directors to work with local media outlets to promote their event. This helps fill the need. I don't think we'll take business away from existing timing outfits, but race directors who currently don't think they can afford a professional timer now have a new, affordable option."
Timing is just the start of it, Spradlin said. Based on the event director's needs, PhD Media can provide pre-event media relations services with local newspapers, television and radio stations. The company also offers post-event services in the form of race reports, professional interviews and video recaps - along with accurate and timely results, of course.
"No other single timing company offers what PhD Media offers," Spradlin. "And no one offers it at the rates offered through us."
Events are contracted on a first-come, first-serve basis as dates are available. When working with a race director for the first time, Spradlin makes the effort to meet with that person prior to event day.
"This ensures both sides there are no surprises on race day," Spradlin said. "Questions can be asked and answered and scenarios can be run through to troubleshoot potential problems, before they're problems."
Rates for each event vary, but normally start at $100 plus a fuel surcharge. High schools and youth groups receive a substantial discount on the going rate for professional timing services.
