WILLIAMSPORT, Md., June 11, 2011 – Nick Adenhart was home.

And on Saturday, a few friends stopped by to say hello.

More than 430 runners and walkers took part in the second annual Nick Adenhart memorial 5K run and 1K Rookie Race on Saturday in Williamsport. Adenhart was killed in April 2009 in a vehicle accident after the car he was riding in was struck by a drunk driver. Adenhart and two others were killed in the crash.

Adenhart is laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery in his adopted hometown of Williamsport, where he dazzled peers with his skill, talent and tenacity to succeed. The 5K course, moved from last year's location in Hagerstown, had participants go right by Adenhart's final resting place.

While Adenhart is no longer able to pursue his dreams, his spirit seemed to help many conquer the 3.1-mile road course and reach the finish line safely.

No one covered it faster than former Hagerstown Community College distance standout Tony Clement. Clement, 24, led 370 others to the 5K finish line with a time of 15 minutes, 44.3 seconds. Jake Green, 26, of Reston, Va., was second in 15:48.5 and Wade Miller, 20, of Shippensburg, Pa., was third in 16:06.7.

Cumberland resident Amy Rowan, 31, earned the women's crown by sneaking under the 20-minute barrier. Her time of 19:59.3 was good for 16th overall and outpaced women's runner-up Laurie Dymond, 45, of Chambersburg, Pa., by 5.1 seconds. Karen St. Clair, 52, of Hagerstown, took third in the women's standings with a time of 22:19.3.

In the 1-kilometer Rookie Race designed for those 12 years old and younger, Dylan Stamper led the 66-runner field over the out-and-back course in 3:50.6. Stamper, 11, of Middletown, outdistanced 8-year-old Eric Bender, of Clear Spring, by 17.3 seconds to secure the win. Seth Hartman, 11, of Hagerstown, was third overall in 4:21.2.

Clear Spring's Ashley Ardinger, 11, took home the girls' crown with a time of 4:28.1 - good for seventh overall. Makenna Luzier, 10, of Boonsboro, was second in 4:31.3 and Taylor Strawser, 11, of Boonsboro, took third in 4:44.7.
