'Infamous' for PS3 gets 4 stars

By Noah Spradlin
for The Potomac Highlands Dispatch

Infamous is a wonderful game for those who enjoy playing along storylines with a flair for the dramatic.

In the game you are Cole McGrath and have survived a terrible explosion in the fictional Empire City. By surviving, you gain electrical powers. You can choose to save what’s left … or destroy it all!

At some moments in the game you will come to a karmic decision - that is, a life-changing time at which you choose to be good or bad. By choosing Hero or Infamous it affects Cole’s life in different ways.

All the graphics were realistic and detailed. Cole’s yellow jumpsuit was very realistic - you can even see the scratches and dents! Game play was absolutely terrific. The character responded well to the buttons you pressed. The game is very realistic. Of course, the powers are fictional but the karmic decisions are sometimes realistic - like when you can either save a police officer or steal some blast shards that helps you activate your super powers. We all might face decisions like those in the game.

You can tell it took awhile to make the enemies. The enemies are the Reapers, Dustmen, and the First Sons. The Reapers were just gangs before the blast. Since the blast the Reapers pretty much run the Neon District, home to Cole and his friend Trish.

Dustmen are mainly guys with guns dressed in trash.  Although they are tougher than the Reapers they look like they can’t afford decent clothing.  The First Sons are a whole different story. The explosion in the game was caused by something they made called the Ray Sphere. These enemies are the only ones with really high-tech suits and weapons. The Ray Sphere is the most powerful weapon made.  Kessler is the head of the First Sons.  He is also your enemy until you are at the “Kessler Reveal.”

All in all this was a great game. The story, the game play, graphics, and respond to buttons were all fantastic. If you buy this game it will be worthwhile. Do you like suspenseful stories, super powers, and awesome game play? If so then Infamous is the game for you!
