FROSTBURG, Feb. 23 -- Mountain Ridge junior Jarrod Harper's older brother, Josh, prefers the University of Texas over West Virginia University.

But Jarrod Harper, 16, is giving him reason to change his athletic allegiances. On Tuesday, Harper verbally committed to attend West Virginia University beginning in the fall of 2012 and play football for the Mountaineers.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Harper doubled as a safety and led the Miners to an 8-2 record and the school's first playoff appearance in its brief four-year history.
