HANCOCK, Feb. 25 - Senior Mariah Stem scored eight of her 22 points in the second quarter to lead Southern Garrett's romp over Hancock in a 60-20 victory on Friday in Washington County.
The Rams, seeded sixth in the Class 1A West Region western sectional, led the third-seeded Panthers 32-6 after 16 minutes of play and limited Hancock to a measly two points in the second quarter.
The win sets the stage for a potential rematch with second-seeded Northern Garrett on Tuesday in Accident. First, though, the Huskies must win Saturday night's home game against Clear Spring.
It might be deja vu for Southern Garrett, which lost twice to Northern Garrett last season but beat them in the playoffs. The Huskies again swept the regular season series, but the Rams showed significant improvement in a 63-56 loss at the Igloo on Feb. 17.
"We're not intimidated," said Rams coach Daniel Bosley. "We plan on winning. We've got the kids believing. We're a whole lot better than we were even two weeks ago."
