Falcons slow but don't stop Huskies as Northern escapes with win
* Northern Garrett limited to 3 points in second quarter
* Frankfort fails to score in double figures in any given period

SHORT GAP, W.Va., Feb. 15 -- If Monday night's game against top-ranked Keyser was a big game, then the Northern Garrett boys basketball team's second road game in 24 hours was crucial.

This time, at least, the Huskies were on the favorable side of the score - but barely - as they were held to a season-low 43 points but earned the AMAC win over host Frankfort.

"it's a win that we needed," said Northern Garrett coach Chris Elliott.

After the Huskies won three straight against Moorefield, Fort Hill and an upset 11-point win over Mountain Ridge, it seemed as if the season had finally turned. Then they lost to Hampshire twice - once by just two points - and fell to Keyser in a game that was winnable.

"Like I told the guys, it's a win," Elliott said. "But we can not play this way going into the playoffs. We know that we have to play better if we're going to get anywhere."

Frankfort's spread offense on Tuesday is similar, Elliott said, to the type of play Mountain Ridge has exhibited in recent weeks. That has resulted in wins for the Miners over Southern Garrett (twice) and a split with Bishop Walsh - in between the loss to Northern Garrett.

Cody Humberson and Patrick Sines each had four rebounds for the Huskies. Steven Holtschneider had five assists and Sines added four. Elliott said his team forced 20 steals but failed to take advantage of many of them.
