CUMBERLAND, Feb. 4 - The post-game video interview, below, with Calvin Hilliard and Joey Kisselovich tell the story better than a few hundred words can.
The Southern Garrett boys basketball team ended a two-game slide with a 65-56 win over host Allegany on Friday night in Cumberland. The Rams had lost to Preston, a highly ranked team from Kingwood, W.Va.. Rather surprisingly to many, the Rams then fell to Mountain Ridge.
The Rams are likely to lose their No. 1 ranking when the new weekly Power Rankings are released Saturday night. On Friday, though, Southern Garrett played like a team aiming to earn back what it sees as its rightful spot atop the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference standings.
Hilliard and Kisselovich said coach Jon Hegeman re-focused the team to emphasize its strength - defense - to return to the Rams' winning ways.
