ACCIDENT, March 11 -- It wasn't even close.
Fan voting and a general consensus among AMAC coaches alike felt that Northern Garrett senior point guard Kaitlynn Fratz was the best fit for PhDispatch.com's selection as Girls Player of the Year.
The award is sponsored by Concept Associates Builders Inc of McHenry and Accident. Fratz was presented the award on Friday during her school's pep rally and send-off to the Huskies' semifinal game against Mardela.
Finishing second in the overall selection process was Allegany senior Leah Wormack, who stood out more for her strength, durability and post play than merely her height. Behind her was Campers teammate Brooke Wharton. Frankfort senior Savannah Hose finished fourth and Mountain Ridge senior Madi Nightengale rounded out the top five.
A total of 4,072 votes were counted during the online fan voting from Feb. 15 through Feb. 22. The second half of the decision-making process came from consulting with coaches, PhDispatch.com staff and contributors in consultation with area sports writers.

We believe that we are getting a great student-athlete.
I am so excited to have her play for us, I wish she was on the team now! She will probably be our smallest kid but she will definitely be our toughest as well. I first saw her at the North Star Christmas tournament and immediatley fell in love with her. She can shoot, defend and is just a scrappy, hard nosed player. People often ask me why I would recruit a small player, but I believe that her toughness makes up for her size and you can't teach heart.
I offered Kaitlynn a full athletic scholarship and I know she will ean every penny of that scholaship.
Everytime I speak with her she is so excited to start college and to play for UPJ and help us win a championship and I can't wait to coach her.
