MOUNT SAVAGE, March 30 -- There is now a monetary reward being offered for the safe capture of a dog allegedly abandoned near Corriganville.

The small, terrier-type animal is gray/tan in color and has been seen over the past three days with duct tape wrapped around its muzzle. On Wednesday, the small army of volunteers trying to capture and help the dog nicknamed him "Ducky."

An Upper Homewood man, Gene Cramer, is offering a $100 cash reward to the person deemed responsible for the safe apprehension of the dog.

Jodi Sweitzer, of Queen City Animal Rescue, said Cramer is offering the $100 cash reward to a volunteer should a volunteer find the animal. Should an Allegany County Animal Shelter safely detain the animal, Sweitzer said Cramer will give $100 to the individual and $100 to the shelter.

A Facebook page has been established by volunteers in order to create an orderly way of following progress or most recent sightings of the dog.

Reportedly, two fishermen claim to have seen the dog now known as Ducky to be thrown out of a passing pick-up truck on state Route 36 near Portertown Road, situated between Corriganville and Mount Savage. The dog was seen to have duct tape wrapped around its muzzle.

Since then, the dog has been spotted by searching volunteers on numerous occasions. As of 2:05 p.m. March 30, the dog has not yet been caught. However, volunteers who have seen the animal report the duct tape has apparently loosened, signaled by the the dog's ability to bark. It's because of that, that volunteers believe he is able to drink from the area's plentiful water supply.

Early Wednesday, Sweitzer and a group of fellow volunteers encountered the animal in the brush on the south side of state Route 36 between the roadway and Jennings Run. They thought they finally had the dog cornered, but - apparently afraid - the dog chose to cross Jennings Run and climb rather difficult terrain up towards the Great Allegheny Passage.

Workers with the Allegany County Animal Shelter, county dispatch center, local law enforcement and volunteer firefighters have aided in the search.

At 2 p.m., it was announced that the Department of Natural Resources "is on its way with a tranquilizer gun and special medication mix to help catch him."

Those who see the dog are encouraged to report it immediately, with as much location information as possible, to 911.

BARRELVILLE, March 30 -- Just as another three-hour search for "Ducky," the now well-known terrier-mix first seen spotted with duct tape wrapped around its muzzle, was about wrap up for the fourth day, the dog was seen again.

Through snow, sleet and then a steady rain, a small army of volunteers went along for at least another hour Wednesday evening as darkness beckoned along state Route 36 between Corriganville and Barrelville in Allegany County.

From about 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., Jim Satterfield of the Maryland Natural Resources Police and Dick DeVore, who currently oversees the day-to-day operations of the Allegany County Animal Shelter, aided volunteers combed the banks of Jennings Run and over mountainous terrain.

Shortly before 6 p.m., one of the volunteers saw the dog on the Barrelville side of state Route 36 north of the Barrelville Road intersection. After a moment's hesitation, the dog ran behind a house and wasn't seen again for some time.
