Animal shelter to begin
evening adoption hours

For The Potomac Highlands Dispatch
CUMBERLAND, Feb. 14 -- Beginning this week, the Allegany County Animal Shelter will initiate evening hours for pet adoption.

The shelter will now be open every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Pet adoptions will now be available on these evenings as well as Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

According to Richard L. DeVore, Emergency Management Division Chief,  volunteers have received adoption process training, and, primarily because of their availability and devotion, the evening pet adoption hours will be a reality.

“The volunteers are extraordinary," DeVore said. "Allegany County is deeply indebted to these giving people who are together caring for animals and sharing their love of them. They have filled a critical void during this transition time."

Allegany County government’s website, has pet adoption information.

The Allegany County Animal Shelter is located in Cumberland’s North End at 716 Furnace Street Extended. The telephone number is 301-777-5930.
