Power outage in Mount Savage
Approximately 1,100 homes without power for less than 90 minutes
By The Potomac Highlands Dispatch
LAVALE, Jan. 22 -- If you were in Mount Savage early Saturday afternoon, chances are you couldn't have read this article - or any other article.
Allegheny Power restored service to approximately 1,100 customers in the area, which is primarily residential in nature.
Allen Staggers, an Alleghney Power spokesman, said a circuit breaker at a substation just south of Frostburg, which serves the Mount Savage area, failed. Staff inspected the line but "didn't see anything wrong."
"We're not really sure what caused that circuit breaker to operate," Staggers said.
The outage occurred at about 1 p.m. Power was restored at about 2:24 p.m., Staggers said.
The number of calls to Allegheny Power from customers about the outage was not immediately available. Staggers said that's because many of those calls reach the voice-activated automated response system.
Allegheny Power customer service representatives told customers who called in about the outage that power might not be restored until 4:30 p.m., and possibly later.
