'Unforgettable night' on tap at free music event

I believe that what the audience will take from this experience is far more than that of any typical show or concert that the general public is familiar with.

FROSTBURG, April 2 -- The Frostburg Palace Theater will be hosting a free community music event from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on April 7.

All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend as the genres of music showcased are not that of the mainstream.

"What these artists are doing is something far beyond that of commercialized music," said Chris Loar, event planner for "Experimental: Understanding Synthetic Sound."

This is the first event of an upcoming series to be held this year in Allegany County.

"I believe that what the audience will take from this experience is far more than that of any typical show or concert that the general public is familiar with," Loar said.

Loar said that the artists in the show will be demonstrating the use of entirely electronic and synthetic instruments to recreate natural and acoustic sounds.

"This is brand new, and the only way to enjoy it is to be surprised by it, like watching the best film you've ever seen and the fact that it was truly amazing had nothing to do with any famous actors or directors," he said. "We need more great things happening in the area, especially when they are free to enjoy, and the fact that there several artists who are willing to share their music with our community is something to be celebrated."

Loar noted that despite free admission, there are costs directly associated with the show's production. Those costs include rental of the venue, travel expenses for out of town musicians, fliers to promote the event, among other things.

"This is an event of the people, by the people, and for the people. We've reached out to our friends who are local small business owners and asked for their support to cover the cost of the show.”

The local businesses that are sponsoring the event are the Bar Monkey, Wild Things Restaurant and Bar and  Harris-Elliot-Mackay Insurance Agency. All of the businesses sponsoring the event are located on Main Street in Frostburg.
