CUMBERLAND, April 13 -- More than 160 Allegany County sixth grade and fifth grade students performed tonight in the annual All County Band Festival at Fort Hill High School.
The two-night show continues Thursday with the junior high and senior high all county bands. The free performance begins at 7 p.m.
Martin Crump, supervisor of fine arts for the Allegany County Board of Education, said higher education institutions today are more eager to pursue students with a track record of imagination and creativity.
Approximately 115 fifth-graders from around the county performed five songs, among them: Tenderfoot March, Majestic March, Bad Romance, Men of Harlech and Let's Rock!
Elementary school band directors who led students Wednesday night included Dave Kuhn, Scott Heavner, Charlie Yarnall and Harold McClay.
The much smaller 48-member All County Sixth Grade Band also performed five numbers, including: Liberty March, Battle of the Samurai, Fanfare and Celebration, The Tempest and Serengeti Dreams.
Directors included Tom Harrison, Jim Roderick, Janet Jones and Janet Stevens.
