Fair & Ag Expo bake sale 'a huge success'
$5,000 raised for Scholarship Fund

For The Potomac Highlands Dispatch
CUMBERLAND, July 21-- On July 18, the annual bake sale to support the 4H and FFA Scholarship Fund was held at the Allegany County Fair and Ag Expo.

A variety of baked goods made by exhibitors, as well as donated items from area businesses, friends and supporters of AgExpo and the Scholarship Fund, were auctioned.

The Scholarship Fund was established to help area youth, who have assisted with or exhibited in the Allegany County Ag Expo, defray the expenses of furthering their education to colleges, universities, and technical schools.  Applicants must complete an application and submit an essay detailing why they feel a scholarship would benefit them and why they feel they should be selected as a recipient.  They also must sit through an interview process.

We would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for their generosity and support of our bake sale and Scholarship Fund: Alan Roby, Ted and Jane Robinette, Southern States Cooperative in Cumberland, Reithoffer Shows, Mike and Wendy Lawson, Pete’s Concessions, Allegany Pest Control, Cumberland Mayor Brian Grimm, Commissioner Creade Brodie, Jack and Hilda Miltenberger, Kathy and Bill Webb, Cliff and Midge Cessna, Sherriff Craig Robertson, Melissa Stevens, Reliable Glass, Wesley Gordon, Commissioner Bill Valentine,  County Administrator Dave Eberly, Buck Stonestreet, Amy Leichliter, Allegany County Farm Bureau, Jason and Sarah Bennett and Family, Commissioner Mike McKay, Larry Humbertson, and Kevin Kamauf.  Also, the independent concessionaires at the fair: TBA Concessions, Pratt Welding, Pete’s Concessions, Underwood Concessions, Radcliffe’s Concessions, Layton’s Concessions, Dip and Dot’s Ice Cream, Reliable Glass, Sam Wilson, Steve Hout, Larry and Jen Humbertson, Dave Pell, Archie’s Barbeque, Royer’s Concessions, Goetz’s Ice Cream Mill, Lenny’s Sausage, Andy’s Cheese Steaks, Don Harden Excavating and Joey Givens.

Donated baked goods, merchandise and gift certificates were generously provided by: Page’s Ice Cream, Oscar’s Restaurant, Caporale’s Bakery, D’Atri’s Restaurant, Healing Hands, LaVale Auto Care, Warner’s German Restaurant, Dottie Ruby, Dana Cessna, Sarah Bennett and Ben Cooper.

This year with their support and generosity, the Ag Expo Scholarship fund was able to raise approximately $5,000.   Without this generosity and support we would not have been able give our deserving youth these scholarships.
