Commissioners to hold a second meeting along Georges Creek neighborhoods to talk sewer debt
* Limited survey response shows preference for existing loan, all should pay

CUMBERLAND, Feb. 10 -- Fewer than 5 percent of the 2,507 account owners and customers of the Georges Creek Sanitary District completed a survey that offered residents a chance to vote for their favorite of eight ways to repay nearly $9 million in debt for the new waste water treatment plant.

Paul Kahl, director of the Allegany County Department of Public Works, said only 124 surveys were received. Kahl sounded disappointed and said he expected a better response rate since, ultimately, the commissioners' decision on how to pay the debt will impact everyone's wallet.

Commission President Mike McKay said the results, or lack thereof, warranted a second public meeting along Georges Creek. No meeting date was announced but indications were it could be in late February or early March.
