MOUNT SAVAGE, Md., Dec. 5 --Children young and old were able to ask the Grinch just why he stole Christmas - and just how fast was he going down the slope when he returned the town's tree to WhoVille - on Sunday at the annual Christmas In Our Village showcase in Mount Savage.

Continuing a prolonged effort to reach out to its neighbors and promote the town's rich history in iron ore, trains, brick manufacturing and coal mining, the Mount Savage Historical Society contracted with Frosty the Snowman, the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Mrs. Claus and even the big man himself, Santa Claus.

The annual celebration was spread between the historic First National Bank, the Community Depot and the old Union Mining Company building on Foundry Row.

Kids were able to remind Santa exactly what it was they wanted for Christmas while sitting on his lap within a brilliantly decorated alcove in the UMC. Afterward, they could enjoy hot chocolate, pop corn and cookies and romp around with the holiday's main characters. Rudolph, it seemed, was in the mood for a boxing match and Frosty was eager to play hide-and-seek with the children.

Mount Savage Christmas celebration a success
The sound doesn't seem to work after about 20 seconds, and we almost decided to not put this video up. That's when we got the idea to get YOU involved. Turn on your favorite holiday music and then press "play" - and enjoy the show!
